We’ve received a treasure of FISH documents from our earliest days going back into the 1960’s. The Founding Ladies kept some of these records all of these years, and have recently passed them on to us. These documents are a treasure to us, and we honor their earliest work. The documents confirm they adopted their Constitution on May 3, 1963, which established our founding date. The organization was then called Broomfield Church Women United.
To learn of the history of the FISH movement, you can go to this 1966 TIME magazine article: Ecumenism: Dial FISH for Help. In addition to Broomfield FISH, a number of FISH organizations are still operating in various communities across the nation. There is no umbrella organization, and Broomfield FISH remains an independent, non-religious (secular) organization. While we respect everyone’s spirituality, we don’t ask anyone about their religious affiliation or beliefs. Since we don’t ask, it cannot be used as a basis of any decision-making. We do appreciate the generosity of many of the faith-based communities in Broomfield, who share their labor, treasure, or food with FISH. |
